June No Shop Month

Hi Everyone! You might remember or you might not, but back at the end of May I announced I was going to go a month without shopping (see post here!). I wanted to give an update on how my June no shop month went!

First I want to talk about what counts and what doesn’t. For me, this was giving up clothes, shoes, accessories. If I needed to restock on a makeup item or a home good, I did not count that. I solely meant shopping as in clothes, shoes, accessories.

Sizing reference: I am 5’4″ and typically XS in tops and 25 in bottoms.

Why I Did a June No Shop Month

I quit my job in Atlanta to move to Tampa to be with my husband. My last day was in the middle of June so I needed to cut back spending a lot.

I moved to Florida and needed to reassess my clothing needs based on new climate & new job

We did a 2 week trip to Europe which was going to be a big expense

To prove to myself that I am not addicted to shopping. Lol I was starting to think I had a problem…

I wanted to get more use out of what I already have. I feel like I get rid of things prematurely because I never got a chance to wear them a ton before their time was up (i.e. don’t fit anymore, out of style etc)

Also, I was tired of the whole buy return cycle. It takes up SO much time.

I was tired of decision making and evaluating each piece “Do I REALLY need this?” “Can I find this cheaper elsewhere?” “What will my cost per wear be?” And then the worst, trying to figure out why you were able to justify a piece when months later it’s only been worn once.

I have so many freakin’ clothes and shoes and bags and accessories that it’s overwhelming.

What I Gained Through This Experience

I realized I really don’t need as much as I think I need and that I can live without the things I’m just “dying to have”

So much time back! Oh my gosh it was so nice not doing my round of returns every week!

Confidence that it’s really not that hard to give up shopping

It was so nice not to have to make decisions revolving around shopping either. More brain power for other things!

A more stable bank account – my money was not constantly fluctuating like before

Was it Difficult?

Honestly, not at all. I thought it would be agonizing, but it was actually one of the easier challenges I’ve done. So easy that I didn’t shop until July 19!

What Broke The No Shop?

It was these Rag & Bone jeans from TJ Maxx! I LOVE high rise Rag & Bone skinnies and prefer darker jeans for work, so when I saw these I knew I had to get them! After that I decided to get the Spanx faux leather leggings from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, but that is it for my July shopping and it feels good!

  • Way to go girl! I have to say, that I rarely shopped this summer either. Now, I didn’t challenge myself, it was that I really didn’t see anything I liked and wanted!

    • Thank you!!! That is super awesome, I wish I didn't like anything hahaha I feel like I want everything!!
