Bar Harbor Maine Trip

We just got back from Maine, so I am sharing all the details of my Bar Harbor Maine trip so you can use these ideas on your next vacation! I will break down each day below, so scroll on for details!

If you’re interested in reading about my Rhode Island trip, check that out here.

Day 1: Portland Maine

We flew into Portland Maine, which is really the best airport to fly into if you are going to Bar Harbor. The drive in 3 hours from Portland to Bar Harbor, which isn’t too bad and Portland is such a great place to explore. We had a quick layover in Philadelphia and then landed in Portland in the afternoon. The Portland airport is super easy to navigate and the rental cars are right there, it was a breeze to get through!

We checked into the Hampton, which is the perfect location for walking around and exploring. Our next stop was Brickyard Hollow brewing company, a cute spot just across the parking lot from the hotel. I got a peanut butter porter and it was amazing! After that we grabbed an excellent dinner at Broken Arrow then went back to Brickyard for more drinks before calling it a night.

Portland is super casual, so this comfortable outfit was perfect for a chilly fall day! Everything is true to size, but I sized up to a medium in the sweatshirt.

Sizing reference: I am 5’4″ and typically XS in tops and 25 in bottoms.

Jacket, Sweatshirt, Leggings, Bracelets (c/o), Sunglasses, Boots, Bag

Day 2: Travel to Bar Harbor

We woke up the next day and got ready to explore more of Portland before heading to Bar Harbor. We stopped at Buzz Coffee, which was excellent then walked around the water front area. After that we were craving some greens, and grabbed huge juices from The Juicery. We walked around the water some more before going to brunch at Central Provisions. The food was excellent and I highly recommend!

We headed out of Portland after that and stopped at Sprague’s Lobster on the way to Bar Harbor. It was about an hour from Portland, and a great spot to take a break from driving. Once we arrived to Bar Harbor, we checked into the Bass Cottage Inn. They have breakfast every morning, desserts every afternoon and happy hours. It is in the perfect location for walking around Bar Harbor and right on the water too. I highly recommend this spot! After checking in, we grabbed drinks at Oyster Bar then went to bed.

I wore this comfortable fleece most days of the trip and it was perfect! I have it in a XS and small and prefer the small for a little more oversized fit.

Day 3: Hike Acadia National Park

We woke up after our first night in Bar Harbor and got breakfast at our inn. They had a choice of sweet or savory options, and it was really good! After that, we went to Thrive Juice Bar for some pressed juice. It was good, but a little overpriced in my opinion. In the afternoon, once it warmed up a bit, we went to Acadia National Park to hike. Acadia is only a 10-15 minute drive from Bar Harbor and there is parking everywhere in the park. We hiked Ocean Path, Sand Beach and Jordan Pond and I absolutely loved it! Jordan Pond was my favorite and it was a little over 3 miles and so gorgeous.

After a big day of hiking, we got ready and went to Project Social for dinner. Their food was really good and I loved the lobster crepe and lobster roll! After that we went to Gayln’s to grab blueberry sangria, blueberry margaritas, blueberry cobbler and lobster rolls. It was really good!

These fleece lined joggers were perfect for a chilly day of hiking (see my full review here)!

Day 4: Explore Bar Harbor

After a big day of hiking we decided to lay low and explore Bar Harbor. The great part about Bar Harbor is that everything is walkable and it’s right on the water. We stopped first at Atlantic Brewing Company for some blueberry beer and lobster rolls. After that, we walked all over town and took in the gorgeous views. There’s a short path along the water that we walked that has beautiful views right by the Inn, and we loved it! For dinner we went to Merchant and Frye and it was my favorite meal in Bar Harbor! The lobster roll was really good. See my outfit of the day in my post here.

Here is the yummy food at Merchant & Frye!

Day 5: Bike Acadia National Park

On our last full day, we woke up and went to Coffee Hound. Their maple latte was so good! After that, we got breakfast at Cafe This Way. I got the lobster Benedict and it was good! My favorite activity of the entire Bar Harbor Maine trip after that was biking on the carriage roads. You can walk and bike on these trails and we biked 27 miles! We rented electric bikes in Bar Harbor and it was quick to get to the trail from Bar Harbor on the bikes. The views were so good and we just had the best time. After that we grabbed beer from Atlantic Brewing and went to dinner at Salt and Steel. Dinner was really good, and I highly recommend it!

These leggings are perfect for bike rides and other intense activity, see my full review here.

Day 6: Travel Back to Portland

On the last day of our Bar Harbor Maine trip, we woke up and got one last maple latte at Coffee Hound then headed back to Portland to fly home. It was such a wonderful trip and I want to do it again next October!
