How was your weekend!? Mine was so wonderful! We went to our neighborhood holiday party Friday and it was SO fun. It was in a barn down the street from us. I wasn’t sure what to expect since I have never been to this party, but there was a wonderful dinner, live music and a never-ending supply of booze. I wore this black velvet blazer to the party and wanted to share another outfit with it below.
Sizing reference: I am 5’4″ and typically XS in tops and 25 in bottoms.
Everyone was showing their holiday cheer and dressed up so nicely and dancing to the band. The holiday decorations were absolutely beautiful and it was such a magical evening while the snow fell outside. It snowed a ton on Friday and Saturday so the streets were quiet as most people stayed inside. What a nice change to the normally busy city. I have never seen so much snow since moving to the Southeast!
I wore this black velvet blazer to the party, but with a skirt instead of jeans. This velvet blazer is a true holiday classic. I got my first velvet blazer in high school from Abercrombie. It was gray and it was so adorable. I kid you not, I wore that thing every year for some holiday event until last year when I finally got rid of it. It was a 3/4 sleeve cropped blazer and was starting to get a little tight. I knew after I put it in the Goodwill pile that I needed to find a new velvet blazer. This little number from Express fit the bill perfect. Unfortunately, this boyfriend blazer is sold out now, so I have linked a few very affordable and similar versions below.
Black Straight Leg Jeans
These jeans might be my favorite straight leg. I have been hunting for the perfect pair of trendy straight leg – bonus points for a thicker pair without much stretch and high rise. The AG Phoebe jeans are PERFECT! They are super high rise and have very little stretch (This wash doesn’t stretch much, but I did order a lighter pair that was pretty stretchy so I returned them). I love them with my velvet booties. I found my jeans and booties on sale at Nordstrom Rack and have linked them below.
Layering Turtleneck
Sometimes it’s hard to find the perfect top to wear under a blazer. If you’re like me, most of your blouses are oversized and just don’t look right with blazers. Fret not, the turtleneck is your new bff with blazers or any fitted jacket. This Theory turtleneck is such a staple that I’ve linked below. I found mine at TJ Maxx on sale, but it is sold out now. Well made basics like this are such staples because they are thick and flattering. I don’t love those tissue thin type shirts because they don’t fit the body the same way.
